A wide range of speakers that are experts in their field will give presentations on topics related to ‘Weighing in a global digital world. We are pleased to announce the following speakers for the first edition of the International Conference on Weighing Technology (ICW).

Jamie Anderson

Jamie Anderson has over 10 years of sales and account management experience across a diverse range of businesses and industries, joining Precia Molen UK in January of 2019. As a Regional Sales Manager his responsibilities include the growth of sales and accounts in Scotland and Northern England. Jamie earned a Sport Management degree from Stirling University.


Morayo Awosola

Project leader - International

Morayo Awosola is the project leader international at the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards. In this capacity he is the UK CIML Assignee. Furthermore, he is the secretary of OIML TC9 SC2 on automatic weighing instruments and OIML TC8 SC5 on water meters. As part of this role he is the convenor of the currently ongoing revisions of OIML R51 on automatic catchweighing instruments and OIML R134 on weighing in motion systems. Morayo holds a Master degree in Industrial Measurement Systems and is a Chartered Engineer of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.


Karlheinz Banholzer

Karlheinz Banholzer studied Mechatronics at the University of Freiburg, then he worked in different roles at the R&D department of a global leader in measurement instrumentation. In 2005 he joined Sartorius as a Technical Manager for Check Weighing and Detection and since 2012 he is Head of Sartorius’ metrology department. The topics of the department cover legal metrology, applied metrology (calibrations) and general metrological aspects. Furthermore, he is president of the Legal Metrology Group of the European Association of manufacturers of weighing instruments (CECIP) and via this role actively contributing to several OIML and WELMEC working groups. For example, he is currently contributing to the revision of OIML R76.


Iraxte Berriozabal

Ms Iraxte Berriozabal Graduated in Business Administration with a master degree in strategic management and another one in sales and marketing management. She has more than 20 year in the marketing area developing my career as a product manager, brand manager and marketing manager in companies related to retail (hand tools, dairy products, surimi and weighing technology). Totally she is customer-oriented, very focused in identifying new trends and developing solutions that fit the market’s needs.


Piotr Bobrowski

Mass Comparators Products Manager, Asia Sales Manager

Piotr Bobrowski has been working at RADWAG for over 8 years.

As a Mass Comparator Product Manager, he is responsible for new solutions in mass comparators and the implementation of mass comparators in the national metrology institutes. He is also the Asia Sales Manager responsible for sales in the Asian market. During eight years of working at RADWAG, he has been representing the company at trade shows held throughout Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Philippe Cartier

Commercial Director

After graduating in Economics from the University of Paris II Assas, Philippe Cartier started his career in the field of advertising, then in grain brokerage. He entered the weighing industry in 1985 with PESAGE PROMOTION, a French company specializing in weighing and batching for industrial applications. He started his activity with a marketing function as load cells product manager, then as marketing manager. In 1990 he joined SCAIME as Commercial Director, a position he still holds today. During this period, he focused on structuring the development of the sales & marketing activity. The company is today established on several continents and recognized at the international level as a specialist in weighing components such as load cells and measurement processing electronics. He has therefore developed an expertise in this field by specializing in the integration of weighing and dosing solutions in modern automation architectures.


Leon Chao

Mechanical Engineer

Leon Chao is a mechanical engineer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the USA. He served as the design engineer for the NIST-4 Kibble balance project which contributed to the redefinition of the kilogram in terms of a fixed value of the Planck constant. Recently, he leads two projects, the tabletop Kibble balance and electronic torque realizer, aimed at the development of commercial instrumentation for direct realization of mass and torque.


Zsuzsanna Dakai

Zsuzsanna Dákai joined the European Commission in 2003 and since 2017 she is responsible for the legal metrology sector. In this capacity, she manages the ongoing evaluation of the EU legal framework for metrology.

Her previous assignments in the Commission included both EU internal and external matters. She dealt with industrial competitiveness, market surveillance and implementation of EU internal market legislation. She conducted trade facilitation and customs negotiations in multilateral fora and with Asian countries.

Prior to that, she worked as project manager at a global sourcing company. She graduated with M. Phil. in International Relations from the University of Oxford.


Dr Stuart Davidson

National Physical Laboratory UK (NPL)

Stuart Davidson is the Science Area Leader for Mechanical Metrology the National Physical Laboratory. He has been at NPL for over 30 years and has been responsible for some major advances in the field of measurement including the direct measurement of the density of air, weighing in vacuum and the use of surface analysis to predict the stability of mass standards. He is a past chairman of the EURAMET Technical Committee for Mass and Related Quantities, and current chairman of the CCM Working Group for Mass. He also chairs the Task Group which is overseeing the implementation of the kilogram redefinition including the development of the kilogram consensus value which is currently being used to maintain and disseminate the SI unit of mass. He also works on the development of the NPL next-generation Kibble balance to realise the new kilogram.


Dr Sascha Eichstädt

Dr Sascha Eichstädt is the leader of the department “Metrology for digital transformation” at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) since mid 2021. He received his Diploma in Mathematics in 2008 at the Humboldt University Berlin, and his PhD in Theoretical Physics in 2012 at the Technical University Berlin. From 2008 to 2017 he joined the group “Mathematical modelling and data analysis” at PTB. From 2017 to 2021 he was the working group leader of the group “Coordination Digitalization” in the Presidential Staff of PTB.

Marko Esche received his bachelor and masters degree in electrical engineering from TU Berlin 2009 and 2010 respectively. In 2014, he received his PhD in Electrical Engineering also from TU Berlin and joined PTB's Working Group "Metrological Software". His research interests include machine learning, smart metering and software risk assessment.


Marina Eurich

Marina Eurich is a PhD student in economics at the Helmut Schmidt University and is working as a research associate at the chair of Political Economy and Empirical Economics. She is also deputy head of the Business cycle and Growth department. Before that, she received a MSc in economics from the University of Heidelberg. Her primary fields of research are applied econometrics, macroeconomics and the consequences of climate change.


Darrel Flocken

Darrell Flocken began his career in the scale industry by joining the Toledo Scale Company in 1975. In 1995 he began working with weights and measures organizations around the world and was an active member of the National Conference on Weights and Measures where he served on the Board of Directors as the Associate Membership Representative and Chairperson of the NTEP Weighing Sector.

In January 2014, Darrell joined the National Conference on Weights and Measures as a Specialist within the National Type Evaluation Program. In this position, his focus of responsibilities includes managing the Verified Conformity Assessment Program, better know as VCAP, and various tasks related to the type evaluation of weighing and measuring instruments. In March 2019 Darrell moved to the position of Administrator.


Dr Gisa Foyer

Gisa Foyer is a researcher at PTB since 2013. She has worked in the department Solid Mechanics until 2018 as a postdoctoral researcher and project manager in the fields of force and torque measurement. Since 2018 she is head of the working group Communications Technology of Weighing Instruments in the department Mass.


Dr Federico Grasso Toro

Federico Grasso Toro has an Electronics Engineer degree in automation and robotics from UNSJ, Argentina (2010), and the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering in Artificial Intelligence for GNSS-based localisation systems from the Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany (2014). Starting in 2016 he works on digital metrology, in National Metrological Institutes (NMIs) like PTB in Germany and METAS in Switzerland. Since 2023 he provides external consulting for the digitalisation of metrological services to NMIs and calibration laboratories.


Keith Gresham

Axle Weight Technology Ltd (Axtec)

Keith Gresham founded Axle Weight Technology Ltd with 4 colleagues in 1991, to manufacture and maintain dynamic axle weighers. They have held the contract to supply and maintain the UK’s national network of about 50 enforcement weighbridges since 1996.  Axtec holds UK National approvals to Classes 1, 0.5 and 0.2 for low-speed Weigh-in-Motion systems. Although he developed the first Weighbridge Test Vehicle specifically designed for testing dynamic weighbridges, he manages their own in-house construction team who construct flat concrete approach slabs to within 3mm, and also level surveying to one-tenth of a millimetre to ensure compliance. On a number of occasions he have served as an Expert Witness in Court in overloading cases.


Dir & Prof Dr Siegfried Hackel

Siegfried Hackel works on advancing digitization within the PTB department on Mechanics and Acoustics. A key part of this role is working on the Digital Calibration Certificate within PTB. Prior to that he was the chairman of the PTB Committee for IT infrastructure and head of the department of Information Technology. He is a director and Professor within PTB. In 1983, he received his PhD from the University of Kassel where his research focussed on theoretical atomic and molecular physics.


Dr Julian Haller

Dr Julian Haller is scientist/engineer at the metrology department of Sartorius Lab Instruments since 2016. He is dealing with aspects of legal, applied and scientific metrology. Before starting at Sartorius he worked within the ‘Ultrasonics’ working group of PTB on several European projects. Julian studied Physics at the University of Goettingen, Germany and got his PhD in 2008.


Dr Ing Prof h c Frank Härtig

Frank Härtig received the degree of Diplom-Ingenieur in mechanical engineering and doctorate from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany. After that time, he worked for several leading companies in the field metrology. Since 1999 Mr. Härtig works in the Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig. In May 2020 he became vice president of the PTB. In 2021 he was also chosen as President of the International Metrology Confederation (IMEKO). Today, one of his worldwide key activities lie in the field of Digital Transformation.


Mehdi Hocine

Mehdi Hocine joined the European Commission in 1994. Since April 2022, he is Head of Unit of the DG GROW Machinery & Equipment unit that is responsible for legal metrology. His previous assignments in DG GROW include the Mobility unit, where he dealt with type approval (emissions and safety) and competitiveness issues, the REACH unit, where he supervised the work of the European Chemicals Agency.  He also worked in DG Competition dealing mainly with state aid cases in the industry, banking and transport sectors.

Mehdi Hocine studied business administration at Sciences-Po Paris.


Anastasia Hofmann

Anastasia Hofmann grew up in the German speaking part of Switzerland. She graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in of international hospitality management. Through various international work experiences and internships within Europe and the US, Anastasia further developed a strong fascination for the hospitality industry and became more aware of sustainable topics and tourism’s impact on the planet. In 2015, she formed a team with Naomi to take part in the F&B Sustainability Challenge (an international challenge funded by SAVIVA, 5 culinary/hospitality schools participated), where they placed 1st with their idea “Smart Kitchen”. This was the initiation of KITRO and encouraged them to continue the path of entrepreneurship.

The project KITRO (Smart Kitchen) combined her personal interest for environmental topics and tech innovations with an industry she cares about. Together with Naomi MacKenzie she continued working on the project and they incorporated the company in 2017. Since then, KITRO has won many relevant competitions, prizes and grants amounting to funds in more than CHF 0.5 million.

Lorenz Keck

Lorenz Keck received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from Technische Universität Ilmenau, Ilmenau, Germany, in 2019 and 2020, respectively. In 2020, he joined the Fundamental Electrical Measurement (FEM) Group of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as a Guest Researcher and worked on his master’s thesis. He is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program with Technische Universität Ilmenau and works as a Guest Researcher with the FEM Group of NIST. His research focuses on the design aspects of the mechanism in the new Quantum Electro-Mechanical Metrology Suite.


Jong-Yun Kim

He is in charge of calibration, inspection, testing of more than half of the weighing used in Korea. He is also an advisor about improving the scale-related system and education in Korea.


Pavel Klenovsky


Pavel Klenovsky has been active in various fields of metrology since 1977, in 1993 he was appointed the founding Director (later General Director) of the Czech Metrology Institute after the split of the Czechoslovak Federation. His main task was to build up the institute nearly from scratch to be able to serve the needs of our highly industrialized country. Since 1996 he has served as CMI Delegate in EUROMET/EURAMET of which many years on its governing body. Since 1995 he has been also Czech Delegate in the association of European national legal metrology authorities WELMEC, since 2020 also in position of the Chair.


Daniel Kneubühl

Daniel Kneubühl is the Managing Director of HAENNI Instruments AG in Switzerland, a company producing mobile scales to determine the weight of heavy duty vehicles. Furthermore, he is the President of the Swiss weighing industry association. Before that he worked as CTO for Digi Sens.


Dr Ing Dorothea Knopf

Dorothea Knopf started working for the PTB during her Phd at the University of Ilmenau. After that she worked in the department on metrology in chemistry before becoming the head of the Mass Department of PTB in 2012. She is the co-convenor of the project on the Revision of OIML R76 on non-automatic weighing instruments. Moreover, she is the chair of the CEN standardisation committee on weighing instruments.


Jan Konijnenburg

Until 2016, Jan Konijnenburg lived and worked in the Netherlands where he obtained his BSc and MSc degree in Electrical Engineering. For 12 years he worked for NMi Certin as Type Approval Expert / Lead Assessor. In October 2016, he moved to the US and started working as Compliance Engineer at Rice Lake Weighing Systems. In 2022 he started a new position as an associate to NIST Office of Weights and Measures in the position of Technical Advisor. Jan has been active within WELMEC, and is now active in OIML and the US National Conference on Weights and Measures. His main expertise is in the field of Weighing Instruments and Software Requirements. He is currently a participating member in OIML project TC9/SC1/p1 on the revision of R 76 where he is the leader of subgroup 3 on the Software Requirements for non-automatic weighing instruments.


Nadina Korthaeuer

Nadina Korthäuer has an engineering degree in production engineering (Dipl. Wirt.-Ing.) and 15 years of experience in the machine industry. She started in medical device business and in the meantime she has more than 7 years in food machinery weighing &  industry. She is a IFFA Frankfurt board member, the world’s leading trade fair on technology for meat and alternative proteins.


Andreas W. Kraut

Andreas Wilhelm Kraut is CEO and shareholder of Bizerba SE & Co. KG. After studying business administration, he began his professional career between 2000 and 2004 in sales and business development at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG. After moving to Bizerba, he was CEO of the subsidiary in the USA from 2005 to 2009. In 2009 he returned to the head office and has been shaping the dynamic growth of the company as CEO since 2011. Andreas Kraut is a representative of the fifth generation of the owner family and counts the topics of digitization and international expansion among his main areas of activity.


Oh Hyeon Kwon

Oh Hyeon Kwon works as manager within KASTO’s legal metrology division since 2016. Before that he worked at KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency) as a Negotiator between Korean company and overseas buyers. Oh Hyeon Kwan has a bachelor in Electric Engineering and Master degree in Engineering management.


Maureen Logghe

Maureen Logghe started working in 2002 as a chemical engineer for the Federal Public Service Economy, SMEs, Self Employed and Energy at DG Quality and Safety. Since 2014 she was a member (and chair) of the EA Advisory Board (EAAB) and represented EAAB in the MAC council of EA. In 2019, she became the director of the Belgian Accreditation Body BELAC. She was elected as EA President in 2021. Since August 2022 she is the Director General of the directorate Quality and Safety, dealing with the quality infrastructure services Metrology, Accreditation, Standardization and Market Surveillance. Mrs. Logghe graduated in 1994 from the University of Ghent as a Bio-engineer specialization Chemistry and started her Ph. D on the synthesis of chemical ligands for beta-agonists.


Naomi MacKenzie

Naomi MacKenzie is a half American half Swiss, born in Texas. Food was one of her biggest curiosities from an early age as she aspired to one day own a restaurant. She studied at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne. An education that would allow the passion for food and business to thrive.

Along the way Naomi worked in various kitchens, during these work experiences (in Switzerland, Italy and Miami) and her studies she witnessed daily the enormous amount of food that is being thrown away. That’s why when the idea was sparked during the studies with Anastasia to combat food waste it was clear that this was the solution and impact, she wanted to commit herself to.

The environmental impact that KITRO is the main driver for Naomi as she strives to ensure that all food is appreciated. KITRO harmoniously combines her love for food, her fascination for technology and drive for sustainable impact. Within KITRO she has learnt mounds with a focus leading the following departments: Sales & Marketing, Partnerships and Product development.


Elena Markwalder

Elena Markwalder joined the company in 2017 as Head of the Standard Industrial business and was appointed Head of Industrial Division in January 2020.

Prior to joining the company, Ms. Markwalder held senior leadership positions at Schneider Electric in Asia and Switzerland, most recently as Divisional Head of Strategy and Marketing in the company's low voltage business. Prior to Schneider Electric, Ms. Markwalder worked in various General, Operations, and Product Management roles for ABB in Germany, Switzerland, the US, and China.

Ms. Markwalder holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University Kaiserslautern-Landau as well as a Master in Business Administration from the Duke University – The Fuqua School of Business.

She is passionate about mentoring young professionals and enjoys spending her free time with her husband and friends being active in nature – oftentimes discovering new locations to participate in triathlons in.


Laura Martin

Secretary General

Laura Martin has been elected as EUROLAB Secretary General during the EUROLAB General Assembly 2022. Previously to this position, she has undergone various responsibilities, taking the first role in EUROLAB back in September 2013. Before, she has worked for DG CONNECT at the European Commission, as well as for other international organisations based in Brussels, taking on various roles such as Communications Manager and International Affairs Manager.

She holds a diploma in Journalism, a master’s degree in Communications Studies, and a bachelor’s in Modern Languages and Translation.


Jonas Mecke

Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)

After graduating in mechanical engineering from TU Braunschweig in 2016, Jonas Mecke joined the PTB working group weighing instruments in 2017. He is responsible for testing, evaluation and certification of weighing instruments under legal controll and their components. He is also a member of the OIML working groups for the revisions of the OIML recommendations for automatic catchweighing instruments (R51) and for automatic instruments for weighing road vehicles in motion and measuring axle loads (R134).

Phillip Moraitis

Philip Moraitis entered the weighing market in 1981. He established his own company in 1994 which is now one of the largest weighing suppliers and NATA calibration facilities in Australia. The company is covering scopes of Mass, Weighing, Volume, Temperature/Humidity, Pressure and Electrical.


Dr Toshihiro Morioka

Leader of Gas Flow Standard Group

Dr. Toshihiro Moriaka joined the NMIJ in 2003. His recent research topic is actual gas flow measurement, especially hydrogen gas. Since 2020, he has been the leader of a national research project on hydrogen metering technology for hydrogen refueling stations.


Christian Müller-Schöll

Christian Müller-Schöll was born in 1966 and studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Stuttgart in Germany. At the university of Applied Sciences in Zurich he was awarded a certificate for Integrated Risk Management. He headed the primary mass calibration laboratory of the METTLER TOLEDO group for more than 15 years, and is now in the MT group's Product Compliance Management and is a certified compliance officer. He is internal auditor and accreditation assessor for laboratories. Christian Müller-Schöll is an expert in matters of calibration and metrology and has published a number of papers in conferences and journals.


Dr Jens Niederhausen

Dr Jens Niederhausen is subject specialist for the subject area digitization in the quality infrastructure in the department Metrology for the digital transformation at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Berlin. Previously he studied physics at the University of Bonn and received his PhD in experimental physics from the HU Berlin. Afterwards, he was a postdoc at the Helmholtz Center Berlin for Materials and Energy for 5 years.


Atsuhiro Nishino

Senior Researcher

Atsuhiro Nishino is a senior researcher of NMIJ/AIST. He received the Ph.D. degree from Nagoya University in 2005. His professional career started at NMIJ/AIST in 2005. He developed a low-nominal capacity torque standard by using gravity. He is also responsible for maintaining and supplying national torque standards in Japan. Since 2013, he has studied torque generation techniques based on the principles of the Kibble balance method.


Dr Yuichi Ota

National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ) / National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST)

Yuichi Ota was born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1986. He received the Ph.D. degree from Tokyo University, Kashiwa, Japan in 2011 and 2014, respectively. In 2018, he joined the NMIJ, AIST, Tsukuba, Japan. He is a member of the Mass Standards Group. His research interests include laser interferometry and sub-milligram weight mass calibration.


Nick Parsons

Nick Parsons is Chief Sales Officer of the Minebea Intec Group. In his role as CSO, he executes the sales, service and marketing strategy, aligned with the company's objectives. He has a long and diverse career in the weighing industry of 37 years. Over the last years, he has been active as a board member in various trade associations and is currently President of CECIP, the European weighing industry association.


Damiano Pietri


Damiano Pietri co-founder and President of Metricode s.r.l. which develops technologies to automate and digitalize industrial weighing processes by integrating them with hardware and industrial applications. Previously he was CEO in ABC Bilance s.r.l. and in charge of legal metrology and he is still the calibration laboratory manager. Damiano represented for four years an important Italian SME association being delegated for digital development issues both in Italy and Europe.


Prof Dr Jan Recker

Nucleus Professor for Information Systems and Digital Innovation
University of Hamburg

Jan Recker joined the Universität Hamburg in 2021 as Nucleus Professor and holder of the chair for Information Systems and Digital Innovation, funded through the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments. He is an AIS Fellow and a Fellow of the Alexander-von-Humboldt-Foundation. In his work, Jan Recker explores how organizations deal with digital innovation and digital transformation. He is ranked among the top 2% of scientists on the planet and as the leading researcher in Germany in his area. The German publication Wirtschaftswoche listed him as the #1 Business Researcher under 40 years of age in 2019.


Dr Philippe Richard

Federal Institute of Metrology METAS

Philippe Richard is the Director (CEO) of the Federal Institute of Metrology METAS, the Swiss National Metrology Institute. A graduate in physics and Ph.D. from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology EPFL in Lausanne, Mr. Richard spent 25 years of his working life at METAS. He contributed to more than 40 scientific papers including the contribution to the Swiss Kibble balance experiment for the redefinition of the kilogram.

He is member of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM), since 2015 and is the President of the Consultative Committee for Mass and related quantities (CCM) since October 2012. He was very active within the CCM since more than 23 years. As CCM President, he has actively contributed to the redefinition of the kilogram in 2018.


Andreas Rieckhof

Andreas Rieckhof started his current role of state secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Innovation of the city of Hamburg in 2011. Before that he was a mayor of the Hanseatic city of Stade and worked for the city Aurich. He worked before in the area of urban development and transportation. Andreas Rieckhof has a Master’s degree in history, political science and social and economy history.


Matthias Rieger

Matthias Rieger is the Head of Innovation and Head of Artificial Intelligence at Bizerba since February 2022. Before that he was the Team Lead AI at Bizerba since 2019. Prior to that he worked in various other roles such as a researcher for protein engineering using generative adversarial networks. He was also Full-Stack developer at Mobile Function GmbH and Stern3D GmbH for a few years. Matthias was the publisher and developer of the game series birdy’s Joyride for the Windows phone and founder of the startup Tauschdasspiel.de. He has a Master degree in Bioinformatics and a Bachelor degree in Media informatics.

Dr Katsuhiro Shirono

Dr Shirono has worked for AIST/ National Metrological Institute of Japan (NMIJ) since 2008. His research interest has been in statistics related to measurement including measurement uncertainty evaluation. He recently started research on developing digitalized system supporting conformity assessments.


Dr Karl Sommer

Dr Karl Sommer joined Minebea Intec in February 2020 as COO. Since April 2023 he acts as CEO of the company. Previously he worked at the private equity investor Aurelius Group as a member of the operations practice, where he acted as Managing Director of the portfolio company LD Didactic Group. Before that, he gained several years of experience in the automotive industry in various positions within the Schaeffler Group. Karl began his career as a research assistant at the university parallel to his doctorate. He holds a diploma in Industrial Engineering from RWTH Aachen University.


Dr Michael Stock

Michael Stock is the Director of the Physical Metrology Department of the BIPM. The BIPM is the custodian of the International Prototype of the Kilogram which served to define the kilogram until 20 May 2019. Since 2019 Michael organizes every two years a comparison of kilogram realizations with Kibble balances and the XRCD method. Michael also overlooks the development of a Kibble balance at the BIPM. He is the Executive Secretary of the Consultative Committee for Electricity and Magnetism and of the Consultative Committee for Units.

Jan Stölting is working for KPMG since 2010 and is currently the partner in consulting specialised in the area of Cyber Security. He has multiple years of experience in cyber security where he supported clients in organisational as well as technical information security topics. Assoc prof Tadeusz Szumiata, PhD

Tadeusz Szumiata is an expert for RADWAG Company and a head of the Physics Department in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Technology and Humanities in Radom (Poland). He does research related to Environmental Science, Magnetic Nanomaterials, Mössbauer Spectroscopy as well as Fundamental and Industrial Mass Metrology. He also worked as an expert for the Central Office of Measures in Warsaw and was the first technical delegate of Poland to Bureau international des poids et mesures (BIPM) in Sèvres in order to visit a new kilogram standard facility after the redefinition of the international system of units (SI) in 2018.


Dr Yoshitada Tanaka

Yoshitada Tanaka is a Senior Researcher at the National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ). He has around 6 years of experience in  maintaining and disseminating mass standards for legal metrology, developing test methods for weighing instruments, and type evaluation testing of weighing instruments. He received her doctorate in 2009 from the Graduate School of Science, Chiba University, Japan. Doctor of Science degree from Chiba University, Japan.


Senri Tanida

Tanita Corporation

The former TANITA Corporation was a healthy measuring instrument manufacturer. The healthy meals served at the company cafeteria attracted attention and the recipes were published as a book, which has sold a total of 5.43 million copies in Japan.

Therefore, Mr Tanida opened a cafeteria for the general public using the recipe, and realized it despite the opposition of those around him. In other words, a measuring equipment manufacturer started a restaurant business in a completely different field.

Taking this opportunity, he developed a health service business called “Tanita Health Program” that supports the health promotion of companies and local governments. In short, TANITA Corporation evolved from a measuring instrument manufacturer to a manufacturer that creates health and a comprehensive health company.

Paul Turner

As the Head of NSAI Legal Metrology, an Irish government regulator and EU Notified Body, Paul has a broad mandate, with statutory responsibility under the Metrology Act, 1996 for enforcing fair trade and consumer protection law in relation to measuring instruments and pre-packaged goods. As well as Paul’s enforcement responsibilities, as the Head of an EU Notified Body, he is also have responsibility for market surveillance activities under the NAWI and MID EU Directive.


Dr Eng Adriana Vâlcu

Andriana Vâlcu formerly worked at the National Institute of Metrology (more than 40 years) and currently she is a scientific researcher at the Romanian Measurement Society and a technical assessor at the RENAR (Romanian Accreditation Association). She authored 1 book, 2 book chapters, over 50 published scientific papers (in various publications and conferences) and more than 25 unpublished works. Her research activity focuses on the development and implementation of new calibration methods in the mass field (for both weights and weighing instruments).


Eric Vermeulen

Eric Vermeulen has over 30 years of experience in the aviation sector. He worked for 16 years at AerCap where he managed over one hundred cabin/system re-configurations of airplanes after re-posession or lease-end. In 2016 he founded the company XTRATA25 which is specialised in the same type of activities.


Oliver Wack

Oliver Wack holds a Master’s degree in Chinese Studies from the University of Hamburg. He started his career at the international mechanical engineering group Körber AG in Hamburg. Emily Webster

Emily joined the Mass Metrology group at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in 2017. She is an experienced scientist in both commercial and research environments. Her current area of interest is the development of a micro-Kibble balance for small scale mass and force sensing applications. Prior to joining NPL, Emily graduated from Durham University with a master’s degree in Physics and Astronomy in 2010 and subsequently worked for a commercial laboratory in the field of density metrology.


Roland Widera

Roland Widera is working for over 40 years within Boehringer Ingelheim and his current role is Head of the Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Department with the responsibility for the calibration process at Ingelheim site. Previously he was head of technical quality management, validation engineer and working on electrical & Instrumentation engineering.


Taiki Yoshida

Taiki Yoshida is interested in evaluating the response performance of flowmeters to fluctuating flow rates. In addition, he specialises in developing a wide range of measurement technology related to fluid engineering, such as developing technology for evaluating the rheological properties of non-Newtonian fluids.


Michael Zell

After receiving his diploma in Physics from the University of Cologne in 2008, he gained experience in the solar industry, until he joined Minebea Intec (formerly Sartorius) in 2012 as a Development Engineer for checkweighers. He has since taking on roles of increasing responsibility within the company, working in his current position since 2021.
